A Venomous Bite

چکیده
As to the evidence of some venomous bite, a faint patch of the ecchymosis was seen mentioned in the accompanying report of the police, just on the inner side of the left anklejoint (about the internal inaleolus). This site of injury was cleansed, and haying failed to observe anything like the ecchymosis, I cut into the said part, which also did not reveal any extravasation of blood thereabout. The skin on the dorsum of hands and along the internal and external side of feet was quite wrinkled and whitish. There were no marks of external violence. On opening the thorax and the abdomen, the lungs appeared, to my great surprise, protruding out of the cavity. They also looked reddish, cedematous, and distended. Transudation of about two ounces of clear fluid was seen there on each side of the cavity. The'trachea and bronehiivvere seen filled with frothy mucus, and similarly no less did the lungs appear to contain frothy clear fluid as ascertained by section at several places. The heart was full of dark fluid blood on its right side ; while the left ventricle contained a small

Field observations and experimental evidence refute previous objections to the coral snake mimicry hypothesis. Concordant color pattern variation spanning hundreds of miles and several presumed venomous models strongly suggests that several harmless or mildly venomous colubrid snakes are indeed mimics of highly venomous elapids.

There is no epidemiological study that exists in the UK for non-venomous snakebites. People most likely to be bitten by snakes live in rural areas in Africa, Asia and Latin America, and work mostly in agriculture. It is however a very unusual injury in Europe. We present the case of a patient who sustained a bite from a non-venomous snake, identified as a Boa constrictor, on her right hand with...
متن کاملTreatment of bites by adders and exotic venomous snakes.
Every year, hundreds of people and unknown numbers of dogs and other domestic animals in England, Wales, and Scotland are bitten by our only indigenous venomous snake, the adder (Vipera berus) (fig 1). UK poisons centres are consulted about an average of 100 human and a dozen veterinary cases each year. In about 70% of patients, envenoming is negligible or purely local, causing pain, swelling, ...
